Eco-friendly vehicles to ferry legislators

The move is aimed at preventing air pollution in and around the Vidhana Soudha and the Vikasa Soudha. It is also a solution to the parking problem at the Vidhana Soudha. The members can park their four-wheelers at the LH and take the eco-friendly vehicles to the Assembly Hall, Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy said.

A six-seater has been launched on a trial basis.

Earlier, Shankarmurthy inaugurated the ferry service by travelling from the LH to the Vidhana Soudha.

Maini Materials Movement Pvt Ltd, who operate the battery vehicles for visitors at the Lal Bagh gardens, will conduct a free trial of the ferry vehicles for the MLCs.

The Legislative Council secretariat will take the decision on whether to hire these vehicles or purchase them, depending on the response from the members.

Charged for four hours, the vehicles can run up to 80 km. A six-seater vehicle is estimated to cost around Rs 4 lakh, officials said.

All the members, including Opposition leader Motamma, welcomed the move to introduce the ferry service in the House.
