An apology for a library in Mulbagal
The library in the town near the Rama Mandir is not fulfilling its objectives. The library is suffering from a lack of basic amenities.
Adding to the woes is the unhygienic surroundings which has been converted into an open toilet. The stench emanating from the surroundings has made the place inconducive for reading.
Kannadabhata Venkatappa, president of the Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat, said that the town needs a better and a bigger library.
A theatre was started in the town 25 years ago in Mulbagal, the hometown of writer D V Gundappa. The library, which was initially behind the Rama Mandir, was then shifted to a smaller place behind the theatre.
A good library is more of a necessity in a place like Mulbagal, which is on the border between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The town needs a library where Kannada books and newspapers are easily available, so that the language develops and nullifies the influence of Telugu.
