Conservation of environment must, says retd chief secretary
The conservation of environment is the responsibility of everybody as it was not confined to individuals alone, said retired chief secretary, Lakshman.
He was speaking at a function organised as part of world environment day and ‘Vanamahotsav’ at world famous Kokkeru Bellur in Maddur taluk, on Monday.
Lakhman said person should plant at least one tree in his life to promote environment. Joint Director of the Department of Horticulture, Dr Krishna said increase of pollution had disastrous impact on the environment. This had a bearing on human and other living beings.
Need of the hour is to conserve the environment for the future generation. As many as 5,000 saplings of various varieties were distributed the beneficiaries.
Besides, about six ryots who contributed for promotion of greenery in the region, were felicitated on the occasion. Deputy Conservator of Forest Venkatesh, Range Forest Officer Shashidhar, Assistant Director of Horticulture Bhuvaneshwari, Headmaster H D Devegowda, Hejjarle Balaga President Lingaiah and others were present.
