Groups merge to form Sunni Muslim Jamaath Federation
Karnataka state Minorities Commission Chairman Anwar Mannipady said that Sunni Muslim Jamaath Okkuta has come into force by merging two groups in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, he said the merger aims at bringing in peace and harmony within the community.
He said AP division’s religious head Alihaji Koora Thangal, EK division’s leader Mangalore Qazi Thakwa Ahammed Musliyar, Udupi Qazi Alhaji Bekal Ibrahim Ustad, Athradi Qazi Aboobakar Musliyar and 34 leaders from both the groups (17 from each group) have come together to form the Federation.
The Federation has decided not to level allegations against each group during Sunni sammelan and conventions. The Qazi will guide the leaders who come from outside the State. The Federation will work towards solving any problems that arise in madrasas of undivided Dakshina Kannada. The Madrasas which is run by these two groups will continue the curriculum which they are teaching so far for the time being. All the madrsas will have to mention in the name board on which group they belong to. The Jamaath will see that there was no groupism.
Stating that bringing together two groups was a major step taken to unite the community members, he said a uniform curriculum will come into force in a phased manner.
To a query on a sect which is publicising Prophet Mohammed’s hair, Mannipady said a committee has been constituted to verify the facts.
Ban welcome
State Minorities Commission Chairman Anwar Mannipady said if the State government takes a move to ban any organisation which is against the interest of the community, country, culture and heritage of the country, and then it should be welcomed.
“We are against all those groups who are against the culture, tradition and the country” he added.
