Sankey Tank Bund Road widening: 19 trees to be auctioned today

The trees are all set for an auction on Wednesday at 11 am. Highly placed sources in the Palike said, once the trees are auctioned publicly, they would be cut down any moment.
Besides 19 trees in the second phase of the project, nearly 100 trees would be felled in the third phase — Malleswaram 18th Cross to Maramma Temple.

Elected body ignored?

The issue of Sankey Road widening was never brought before the elected body of the BBMP. The approval for widening the road was given by the administrator, which is still treated as valid despite an elected body in place.

Before executing any such project, the matter should be brought before the standing committee on Town Planning but it was never presented before it for approval.

The chairperson of the Town Planning Committee, Ramamurthy, said the matter never came before him for approval.

Congress corporator Gunashekar, who was the member of the previous TP Committee, also gave a similar response.
