Error rectification halted as Palike shifts stats office
People who visited the BBMP statistics office on MG Road on Thursday to get errors rectified in birth and death certificates, were sent back as the office is being shifted from its Public Utility Building premises.
They were unprepared for the news that the office would not be working till July 5.
However, online registrations and all other birth and death registration offices around Bangalore will continue.
The office is shifting from the 10th floor of Public Utility Building to the BBMP office at Majestic. The space on 10th floor will now be used for the court offices, mainly family court.
Imtiyaz Pasha said: “My family and I need to apply for a passport to go on a Haj pilgrimage. In my son’s birth certificate, they have failed to mention my wife’s full name. Because of this, I am not able to apply for a passport for my son.”
He said the office staff had been dilly-dallying in addressing his grievance for over a month. “Now I have to wait for a week more. Even then, I am not sure when they will actually process my complaint,” he said.
Joint Director for Statistics Shankarappa told Deccan Herald, “The Commissioner had mentioned a month ago about the shifting process, but suddenly we were asked to vacate the office in two days. This causes a bigger headache for us.”
Shankarappa added: “There are loads of records which we need to shift and handle with care. It is a very difficult task to be accomplished within two days.”
Ilyas Khan noticed recently that his son, Furhaan, was two years older than his actual age as per the birth certificate.
“He was born in November 2009, but the office certificate says 2007. This will create a lot of problems when I have to apply for any official document or while admitting him to school,” said Ilyas.
Shankarappa could not even guarantee that the office will be up and running by July 5.
“The office at Majestic is not yet ready. I am not sure July 5 will be a possibility for us,” he said.
