<p>Students have to trudge through a muddy road up a hill for more than two kilometre to reach school. Adding to their woes is a lack of bus shelter at the nearest bus stop.<br /><br />Braving these difficulties, when children finally attend classes, they are greeted by shortage of teachers and classrooms, lack of residential facilities and most surprisingly one laboratory to conduct experiments for three subjects.<br /><br />The computer science lab boasts of three computers for the entire school — two are used by children while the third system is occupied by teachers.<br /><br />Even teaching and non-teaching staff have a plethora of problems such as non-payment of salaries for several months and lack of classrooms.<br /><br />The residential school is open for students between sixth and 10th standard and has been functioning for the past 10 years. Separate residential facility has been set-up for children, teaching and non-teaching staff. However, starting a PU college in the school building three years back has caused serious complications. More than 50 students are crammed into a small room.<br /><br />While the college offers PCMC and PCMB combinations, there is no Physics lecturer, while mathematics lecturer comes only on Tuesdays.<br /><br />Authorities concerned cite the lack of job guarantee and delay in payment of salaries as the prime reasons for teachers failing to join the college.<br /><br />Having been denied salary for the past five months, teachers say they are in dire straits.<br />School students, apart from sharing their classrooms, also have to part with their hostels. With more than 15 to 20 children crammed into one room. Each room has only one toilet and bathroom. Adding to their problems is frequent power cuts and broken window panes.</p>
