‘Aadhaar’ launched in City

Mangalore, July 6, DHNS

By the end of 2014, all people in DK may get IDs, says ADC

The first phase of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) enrolment scheme for ‘Aadhaar’ was launched at Mangalore Head Post Office on Wednesday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma handing over the ‘Aadhaar’ enrollment form to Lions Governor J K Rao at Mangalore Head Post Office on Wednesday. DH PhotoLaunching the programme, Additional Deputy Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma said that the process of the identification must be done meticulously because in the digital format of identification, the rectification of errors becomes difficult.

“The staff have to take extra care in terms of data entry, storage of data etc. It should not end up being a mess,” he said.

He informed that the 2011 census said that there are 21 lakh people in the district and 13 lakh voters. By the end of 2014, all the people in the district can be given the ‘Aadhaar’ ID. Lions Governor J K Rao was the first person to be enrolled under the scheme.

Speaking about Aadhaar, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices T G Naik said that during the second phase, the service will be available at Kulshekar, Kankanady and Ullal. In the third phase, the service will be available at Hampankatta, Kodialbail and Bejai.

During the due course, the services will be extended to offices in Ashoknagar, Panambur, Surathkal, Mulki, Haleyangadi, Kinnigoli, Bajpe, Car Street, Kateel, Katipalla, Munkur and Ganjimutt.

How to apply?

Persons desiring to have this UIDAI have to present the prescribed application form duly filled, to the post office. The counter assistant after verifying the application will issue a token.

The applicant will have to wait for enrolling, which involves a process of capturing biometric information such as 10 fingerprints and iris of the eye. This will be time consuming and will require 15 to 18 minutes to process a single application.

The cards will be dispersed to the application in 45 days. The scheme is optional.
There will be no redundancy in data entry because the data will be fed to the central server where the fingerprints and iris print will be stored. In case of repetition in the data, that application will not be processed.
