Man held for murder

Bangalore, July 7, DHNS

A construction labourer allegedly murdered a vegetable vendor over a petty issue in Devanahalli on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, Bhaskar, the victim, ran a vegetable shop near the land belonging to his uncle, where a building is under construction. The contractor, Anand, had hired Manoj Kumar from Chhattisgarh for the construction work.

In the morning, Bhaskar accused Manoj of laxity in work and the two had an argument. In the afternoon, Manoj went for lunch, taking the construction tools with him. Bhaskar followed Manoj on his bike and fought with him over the latter taking away the tools. In a fit of rage, Manoj assaulted Bhaskar with a construction tool, killing him on the spot. Before he could flee, the public caught him and handed him over to police.

House looted

An unidentified man made away with valuables from the house of a businessman at Marutinagar in Madivala on Thursday afternoon.

The houseowner Sohanlal, who runs a electrical goods shop, stays in the first floor. His sister-in-law Jalakibai stays in the ground floor. Sohanlal was away in Rajasthan and had given the keys to Jalakibai before leaving.

The suspect came to Jalakibai’s house, saying he wanted to deliver an LPG cylinder to Sohanlal. She suggested that he keep the cylinder outside the house, but he claimed he received a call from Sohanlal’s shop asking him to keep it in the kitchen. Trusting his words, she opened the door to allow him inside. Soon enough, the suspect pushed her inside the bathroom and locked her up. He took away jewellery weighing 300 gm and other valuables in the almirah.

Chain-snatching

Two bike-borne men snatched a gold chain worth Rs 40,000 from Suryanarayana Shetty (69) on Jewellers’ Street on Thursday, when he was returning home from a walk.

Temple looted

Burglars struck at the Ganesha temple at Byappanahalli and made away with a silver idol and silver ornaments of the deity on Wednesday. The theft came to light on Thursday morning when the priest found the doors broken open and the valuables missing.
