Memories
I search for the lost memories in my mind
I remember other things instead
Incidents that I’ve tried to forget
I feel surges of pain and clutch my head.
I’m a young girl trying to fall asleep
My mother and father are talking loudly
I hear a sharp sound and my mother begins to weep
I rush out of my room and another scene unfolds.
I’m a bit older now, fighting in school
The mean girls laugh at my awkward accent
The teacher is unhappy but says I’m no fool
Tears begin to fall and then become raindrops.
I’m a teenager playing outside while its pouring
Suddenly I feel a wave of sadness for no reason
I go inside and the grief turns to anger for no cause
I black out and when I open my eyes it’s a different season.
It’s summer and I’m starting college
My heart is yet to be broken and I yearn for romance
Finally I notice that I have grown to be beautiful
Prince Charming approaches and I do a little dance.
I open my eyes and I’m back to the start
Those empty slots in my mind will soon be filled
Life has just begun, a roller-coaster ride
The mystery of the future has me thrilled.

Verse in vain?
Nature is such a beautiful thing
The fish that swim and the birds that sing
The trees that shelter us at all times
The wind that creates the music of chimes.
The hills and the ocean with its waves
The animals living in caves
The breeze that blows for miles
The rivers that flow — the Ganga or the Nile.
The colourful plants and the flowers
The waterfalls like stunning showers
Now we hardly get to touch or see
Thick, massive, old trees.
Because of machines which rule our lives
Fast disappearing are birds and animals of all types
This verse is a humble attempt
To wake up everyone and get them to protect
Nature.
