Last Updated 15 July 2011, 18:52 IST

He is now Nischalanandanath Swami.

Speaking with mediapersons after renouncing the worldly pleasures, he said without the permission of senior seer, Dr Balagangadharanatha Swami of Adichunchanagiri Mutt, he could not react.

Not under pressure

Junior swami of Adichunchanagiri Mutt Nirmalananda Swami said, “While embracing sainthood, it did not appear that Nagaraju was under any pressure. Probably he might have lost interest in the worldly pleasures. Hence, the decision,” he added.

A KAS officer belonging to 2005 batch, Nagaraju belongs to Honnenahalli village of Kunigal taluk and is the son of Lingaiah and Honnamma.

It is still not clear on whether he has submitted his resignation to the tahsildar’s post. Deputy Commissioner Dr P C Jaffar said the tahsildar was on leave.

Rumours thick

Rumours were thick that the tahsildar would embrace sainthood, when he was earlier serving as tahsildar at Nagamangala taluk. He was later transferred to KR Pet, owing to political pressures.

A couple of days back, the tahsildar had averted animal sacrifice during a jatra mahotsava at Bommenahalli village in KR Pet taluk.

The sheep brought for sacrifice during the jatra was accepted in the form of donation. It was sold and the amount was utilised towards the temple’s welfare.
