A few residents called Deccan Herald office on Sunday to complain about the contamination that is forcing them to buy water from the market. The worst sufferers were some 50 houses in and around the Wilson Garden Park where water stank.

Dirty water in taps

Prasad, a local resident, said the taps were spewing contaminated water since Thursday, but it was only on Friday that the water flowing through the taps emanated foul smell. Some houses received dirty water through the taps, said Prasad.

“We complained to the BWSSB, but they could not resolve the problem till Sunday evening,” he said.

“We will be in fix if the water supply is not restored on Sunday, as the family has organised a function and many guests are expected,” said Chaitanya, another resident.

Drawing benefits

Water suppliers did a roaring business, thanks to the water contamination, selling water at Rs 700 to Rs 800 a tanker to many families in and around Wilson Garden Park area.

The BWSSB authorities said they were unaware about contamination of water in the Wilson Garden area but promised to look into the matter.

However, even after four days they could not repair the pipelines.
