Ahead of its release, the legendary Smurf characters — the Papa Smurf, Smurfette and the Clumsy Smurf made a grant entry into the Cinepolis Multiplex at Royal Meenakshi Mall, Bannerghatta Road recently and interacted with the audience and got them introduced to the flick.

This time, the animated comedy movie, is set in the backdrop of New York City as the Smurfs were chased out of Smurfville by the evil wizard, Gargamel. The Smurfs take shelter in a home in New York City and try to find a way back to their village. As Papa Smurf, Smurfette and the Clumsy Smurf, who play the lead roles in the movie, made their appearance at the mall, kids around went crazy and started shaking hands with the characters. They could not refrain themselves from dancing in joy when these characters performed an act from the movie and shared goodies with them.

Among the three, the Clumsy Smurf seemed to be the most popular among kids. “My favourite cartoon is Brainy Smurf. Ironically, he is not here today. Clumsy Smurf is the best friend of Brainy and both of them hang out together. So, I like Clumsy as well. Moreover, he had saved Smurfs many a time from getting caught by the evil wizard Gargamel,” says 10-year-old Alok Vardhan, who is a regular follower of ‘The Smurfs’.

A large crowd had gathered to have a glimpse of these funny characters and people were seen getting their pictures clicked with ‘The Smurfs’. The Smurfs captivated many at the mall. While Papa Smurf was busy playing with the kids, Smurfette and Clumsy Smurf danced in the arena and kept the audience on their toes. They enacted a scene from the upcoming movie on the request from the audience.

For many, it was their first encounter with these blue cartoon characters. “I watch cartoons and animated movies. Somehow, I didn’t come across Smurfs. They look very funny and their characterisation is quite interesting. I have decided to watch the movie on the releasing day with my friends,” said Tarun Sharma, a BBA student of the AMC Institute, Bannerghatta Road.

“We are very excited to showcase this movie at Cinepolis. We have got one of the best 3D theatres and audience sure will have a thrilling 3D experience. Especially, the kids will enjoy this comic movie,” said Satish Kumar, Unit Head, Cinepolis.
