BDA is Bengaluru Destroy Authority, says High Court

Last Updated 19 July 2011, 19:28 IST

“First it was the KIADB, and now it seems the BDA too has been involved in corruption and irregularities while acquiring land in the name of development. Instead of working for development, the BDA has indulged in commercial activities for profits,” Justice D V Shylendra Kumar noted.

The comments came during the hearing of a batch of petitions challenging land acquisition for formation of Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda Layout. The judge said that the offices of assistant, deputy commissioners and sub-registrars had turned into corruption centres. “Like smoke-free zones, there should be corruption-free zones at all these offices,” he noted.

When the State submitted that it was facing huge embarrassment every time when the Court sought voluminous documents for microscopic scrutiny, the Court said that it was doing so since it had lost faith in them in view of several cases alleging irregularities. The matter has been adjourned.

CID probe ordered

The High Court has ordered a probe by Crime Investigation Department (CID) into the case of an alleged fake accident claim.

The Division Bench headed by K L Manjunath passed the order during the hearing of a petition by the wife of an accident victim who claimed compensation of Rs 27 lakh on the basis of fake documents. The Court also directed the police to issue FIRs soon after accidents, in case of insurance claims.
