Providential escape for AI passengers
The passengers, including noted author Chetan Bhagat, on board an Air India plane had a miraculous escape on Wednesday when the plane skidded off the wet runway after a tyre burst while landing. No one was hurt in the incident, which occurred around 1230 hours, according to airport officials at Kanpur.
The flight, which operated between Kolkata and Delhi via Kanpur, however, was aborted at Kanpur for inspection by the technical staff, sources said.
It had been raining at Kanpur, when the plane landed, the officials said hinting that the wet runway might have caused the plane to skid off the runway. The front tyres of the plane had got stuck into the mud. A majority of passengers were bound to Kanpur and two were travelling to Kolkata. They were sent to Lucknow for their onward journey, sources said.
