<p>Social activists and politicians gathered in a conference on ‘Fight Against Corruption and Corporate Loot’ said that fountain-head of corruption is economic policies adopted by the government which allows this loot.<br /><br />Articulating the Left position, CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat said, “the huge money generated by the corporate loot, has gone down to our political system and this is affecting our democracy.”<br /><br />Karat applauded Team Anna for bringing the issue of Lokpal Bill in limelight and supported the demand of effective Lokpal Bill which should bring all the public servants including Prime Minister in the ambit of Lokapl Bill. He wondered why government changed its stand on Prime Ministers when all the earlier draft Bills had this provision.<br /><br />However, Karat emphasised that the fight against corruption should focus on economic policies which have led to massive loot of public resources by corporates.<br /><br />Social activist Aruna Roy said transparency in framing laws is also essential to make them beneficial to the common public. Both Karat and Roy emphasised multi-institutional mechanism to curb corruption in public life. While Karat suggested separate mechanism to investigate corruption charges against judges, Roy wanted four to five institutions to investigate corruption charges at different levels.<br /><br />Prashant Bhushan defended Team Anna’s position on single institution of Lokpal to look after corruption at level levels.<br /><br />All the speakers alleged that public resources were being given to private companies at throw away price and big money had been transacted in the process.<br /><br />They cited how IPCL was given to Reliance and VSNL to Tata virtually at no price in the <br />initial phase of liberalisation. They referred to the mining scam by Reddy brothers and alleged that the BJP was unable to take any action against the Reddy brothers.</p>.<p> Aamir supports Anna’s draft<br /><br />Bollywood star Aamir Khan has strongly supported Team Anna’s Jan Lokpal Bill. The noted actor has suggested that the Lokpal Bill should be free from government control and the government should have no say in selecting the Lokpal, reports DHNS from New Delhi. <br /> </p>
