The website www.mysorepalace.tv has registered a record number of two crore hits (visitors) from across the globe.

In a span of one and half years, the reach of the website has seen a 200 per cent growth. The number of hits which began from 10-15 lakh visitors in a month when the website was launched in early 2010, has hit a new record reaching two crore a month.

24/7 tour

The site has been visited round the clock as visitors knocked in from across the globe — the sub continent (India), Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, United Kingdom, United States, Hungary, Poland, South Korea, Phillipines and others.

The visitors from European, western countries and South Asia viewed the site for a virtual tour of the palace in high numbers, officials say.

According to Sanjay, managing director of Software Guru, an IT firm which evolved the site and maintains it, the wider reach was possible because of the interactive feature of the website. “The Amba Vilas mansion (palace) is divided into 21 segments from entrance to exit to show the 3D view of the palace. A visitor can get a feeling and experience of touring inside the historical palace. Visitor will also have control over virtual tour — to stop and start from where he stopped,” he says.

He adds that the Palace Board has opted for latest technologies to make the website user friendly. The day-to-day information and notices are updated everyday. The website address has been included in tourism encyclopaedia enabling for a wider and global reach, Sanjay told Deccan Herald.

“The total number is not enumerated from unique counts (from single IP address). But, has been evolved from the total number of counts exclusive to one IP address. The big increase in number of internet users worldwide and popularity of palace has contributed to wider reach,” he says.

T H Subramanya, deputy director of Palace Board told this newspaper that the board intends to further improve the website to add more features and make it more interactive for visitors.

The site has helped beckoning more tourists recently as the number of visitors to palace has crossed 32 lakh last year. Going by this trend, the palace will outsmart Taj Mahal in the number of visitors,” he remarked.
