A welcome option for MBA aspirants

Last updated: 23 July, 2011
Bangalore, July 23, DHNS:

Itís an old story that MBA has become one of the most sought-after degrees in modern age.

Ever since economic reforms began in India in 1991, the potential of a good degree in management has also increased considerably. And with the constant boom in Indian economy, the importance of an MBA from a good college has to be hardly overemphasised.

While it is true that prestigious colleges such as IIMs have set the benchmark for management education in India, several other institutes, too, have created a niche for themselves and are matching the IIMs in terms of quality.

Students who fail to get their way into IIMs need not worry. There are several other equally good colleges that can turn them into efficient, able, and competent managers.

The Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT) is an important entrance examination for admission to postgraduate courses in management and computer application.

It will be held at 14 centres – four in Bangalore, two in Mangalore, and one each in Bagalkot, Belgaum, Davangere, Gulbarga, Hubli, Mysore, Shimoga, and Udupi – from 2 to 5 pm this Sunday.

Although many other entrance tests exist for MBA and MCA courses in Karnataka, the importance of KMAT lies in its vast network of member colleges.

Have a look: As many as 153 colleges, affiliated to respective universities in various parts of the State, are members of Karnataka Private Post-Graduate Colleges’ Association (KPPGCA), which conducts KMAT. Among them are institutes known for the quality they offer. Almost all top MBA/MCA colleges admit students based on their KMAT score.

Besides, many engineering colleges that offer MBA programmes are part of KPPGCA.
A look at the top colleges in Bangalore reveals it all. The notable ones are Alliance Business Academy, Acharya Institute of Management and Science, Acharya Institute of Technology, Al-Ameen Institute of Management Studies, Bhavan’s Savitriamma Akkihal Institute of Management, Bangalore Institute of International Management, Bangalore Institute of Technology, Brindavan College, Cambridge Institute of Technology, CMR Institute of Technology, CMR Institute of Management Studies, City College, Dayanand Sagar Institutions, Don Bosco Institute of Technology, Don Bosco Institute of Management Studies, Garden City College of Science and Management Studies, Jain University, Jyothi Nivas College, KLE’s Nijalingappa College, Kristu Jayanti College of Management and Technology, Mount Carmel College, MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology and† many others.

Further, many top colleges in places such as Hubli-Dharwad, Mysore, Mangalore, Belgaum, Gulbarga, Shimoga, Tumkur and Bijapur are associated with KMAT.

In a nutshell, students who write KMAT are much more likely to have a shot at studying at top colleges and bagging plum jobs at MNCs.†
