Speaking about the episode in a television interview, Singh said the “only gag” on him was after he wrote an article on Chidambaram. “She (Gandhi) did tick me off and I went and apologised to Chidambaram,” Singh told Karan Thapar on the interview programme “Devil’s Advocate”.

Singh had triggered a controversy by calling Chidambaram “intellectually arrogant” and that his approach on the Maoist issue was based on “narrow sectarian view, treating it as a purely law and order problem”.

Speaking about the recent controversy, erupted after he implicated Hindu right wing elements in the July 13 triple blasts in Mumbai, Singh denied that he was “communalising terror”, and clarified he has not slapped anyone. “I reject the charge of communalising terror as I have always kept communal Hindus and Muslims on the same footing. I have not slapped anyone,” he said.

He also rejected that he was an adviser to Rahul Gandhi. Asked if his controversial statements distort the image of Gandhi, he said: “Absolutely wrong. I am neither an advisor nor a mentor to Rahul Gandhiji.”
