Listening pleasure

Art, music and charity were brought together at a classical music event that was held recently at Alliance Francaise.

The Majolly Music Trust, in collaboration with Theme and Kawai Pianos, presented a classical music treat in the form of ‘Classical Piano Festival’ for the music lovers in the City.

The recital was part of an initiative to collect funds for aged and infirmed musicians.

It featured Natallia Kapylova, who is a Belarusian pianist now settled in Bangalore; Chelsea de Souza, a young pianist from Mumbai and Neecia Majolly.

The three-day event was attended by the lovers of classical music from all over the City. And the critically acclaimed musicians played some of the famous pieces composed by musicians of the bygone era.

The evening was unmistakably high with energy and abuzz with excitement, as the people seated themselves in the auditorium. Everyone looked forward to the pianist play some of the best pieces from the baroque and classical eras and Chopin and Beethoven’s compositions.

“I am looking forward to the programme as we will get to listen to some of the best of the classicals,” says Samantha Matthew, a music enthusiast. Day one of the concert featured Neecia Majolly, the founder and trustee of Majolly Music Trust. She is a concert pianist, conductor, singer, teacher and composer.

Everyone waited for the artiste to come on stage. And they didn’t have to wait for long. Neecia took to the stage and started the evening with works by Beethoven, Massenet and others. The audience were delighted with these familiar pieces which set the mood for the rest of the concert.

Day two was dedicated to the maestro Chopin and the audience were excited to be a part of an all-Chopin event. Natallia enthralled the audience with ‘Mazurka’, ‘Valse’, ‘Nocturne’, ‘Fanataise Impromptu’ among others. The music was exquisite and upbeat and a delight to listen for everyone present.

Day three saw a performance by Chelsea D’Souza, who played music ranging from the classical to the 20th Century eras. The magical evening came to an end with a note of thanks to the performers and the classical music enthusiasts who came to support the concert.

Says Neecia, “There are many Western classical concerts conducted these days, which is a very positive trend. Also, more and more people are interested in learning music.” The Majolly Music Trust, which started in February this year, plans to have a festival of this kind every year for the benefit of music lovers.

The audience was an eclectic mix of people but the one thing that was common among all was the love they shared for classical music. Says Shawn Mascarenhas, “I have grown up listening to classical music because my father was a musician and even I have learnt the piano. So I was delighted to watch such brilliant musicians perform some great pieces that will always remain as classical bests.”
