<p>The first to be selected from south India for the International Space Settlement Design Competition funded by Nasa, the students’ team, among 12 other teams, will work on the project - ‘Space City’, which is supposed to have a capacity to hold 10,000 humans. <br /><br />Representing Asia after winning the semi-final round held at Gurgaon, the boys will push for their luck to be crowned the world’s best team in the final round. <br /><br />Speaking to the media on Monday, Neelam Patil, head of the Computers Department, said: “Gurgaon tested them for a span of 23 hours after which they submitted their project. Now, Nasa will give 48 hours during which the students should come up with their Space City.” <br /><br />Not many are willing to endure the test and the few that remain are among the country’s best said Neelam. She will accompany the students along with the HoD of Physics, Asha Balaji. <br /><br />The 17th year of the competition will have the team from Bangalore clubbing with teams from US, UK and Romania to form a single group. There will be three other such groups and the space cities will be tested on the grounds of design, habitation for humans, technology, financial feasibility and self-sustainability of the colony. <br /><br />The project, which on paper is estimated to cost more than $30 billion, will become a patented property of Nasa after the students submit the 40-page report. But, the 12th grade students are excited only by the fact that they are representing Asia and will get a fully-funded three-day trip to Nasa.</p>
