2 men offered lift, robbed
Three unidentified persons robbed two passengers of their valuables on the pretext of dropping them at their destinations in Girinagar Sunday night.
According to the police, Venkatesh from Padmanabhanagar 10th Cross, alighted from a bus at Nayandalli Junction. He was waiting for a vehicle to go to Banashankari.
The suspects came in a four wheeler (KA 01 M 9357), stopped it at the Junction and asked Venkatesh whether he was going towards DG Petrol Bunk. Venkatesh and another passenger Mohan got into the vehicle.
The suspects threatened them with weapons, robbed jewellery and Rs 2,100, pushed them out on Venkateshpur road and absconded.
House burgled
Thieves struck at a house in Bharathinagar police limits and made away with cash, jewellery and other valuables worth Rs 9.81 lakh recently.
The theft took place when Sundar, a resident of Narayan Pillai Road, had gone to Shimoga along with his family members.
Sundar and family went to Shimoga on July 23 and returned on July 24 evening. They were shocked to see the house ransacked when they came home. The thieves had broken open locks of the door of second floor to gain entry inside.
RI for robbery bid
The Fourth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court sentenced four men to a year’s rigorous imprisonment for attempt at robbery.
Judge M B Patil found Manjunath alias Benne Manja, Lokesh, both from Nelamangala, Ramaswamy and Musabdin of Hassan guilty of attempting to rob a passenger of her valuables inside a coach in a train on January 15, 2008.
Rasheeda Banu of Ramanagara was travelling by Mysore-Salem Express train along with her children.
The suspects who got into the train when it stopped near Malleswaram railway station threatened Rasheeda with weapons and directed her to hand over valuables.
The woman along with her children jumped out of the bogie and sustained injuries. The suspects also jumped out and absconded.
Many robberies had taken place on the stretch between Malleswaram and Yeshwanthpur railway stations.
The modus operandi of the suspects was similar in all the cases.
Rasheeda said the suspects were aged between 20 and 25 and one of them had light eyes. All the four were school dropouts and used to stay at different railway stations in Bangalore.
NGO chief held
Nandini Layout police arrested the chief of a charitable trust on the charge of cheating and recovered documents, three cellphones, a computer and fake undergraduate certificate of Osmania University, Hyderabad.
The suspect, K T Gurumurthy (36) of Vijayanandnagar, Nandini Layout, runs Srishti Charitable Trust at Vijayanandnagar.
Police said Gurumurthy prepared the fake BSc degree certificate of Osmania University, Hyderabad.
He submitted the certificate claiming he passed out BSc in 1997 and obtained trade licence from BBMP Mahalakshmipuram Zone Health Officer.
The BBMP deputy health officer grew suspicious after he went through the suspect’s certificate and other documents. He lodged a complaint with police, after he had the certificate verified and found it to be fake.
