Swamy favours independent prosecutors to deal with corruption

Swamy stated this while delivering a lecture on corruption in India at an event organised by the Global Indian Technology Professionals Organisation (GITPRO) in the Silicon Valley.

Summarising the impact of corruption as sub-optimisation and misutilisation of resources, a low return on investment, artificial inflation and dangers to the national security, he said that if it was not for corruption, India could have built complete infrastructure or wiped the revenue deficit in the budget or could have set up 100 modern universities.

He said that history was created when the apex court ordered the CBI to report to it and get instruction from the judiciary.

"When my repeated petitions to the Prime Minister on the 2G spectrum scandal did not evoke any response, the court stepped in and questioned the government why there was no response to my queries," Swamy said.

"This is unprecedented in the history of our country where the judiciary has castigated the executive for their lack of response on a matter concerning national importance," he said.

"India's corruption has a multidimensional adverse effect on the society and the economy. In the process national security is also compromised. It is essential that instead of working to improve our own prosperity we need to go back to our own values," he said in his speech on 'Corruption and Black Money: Sources, Impacts and Solution.'

The GITPRO event was presided over by US Microtech's CEO Sri Chawla. Founded in the Silicon Valley in 2009, GITPRP has chapters in the US and India.
