'Media should be pro-people'
Journalists who are entrusted with social responsibility should be pro-people.
In addition to being a witness to events and processes and reflecting the same to the readers, journalists should be active participants in development projects, said Deputy Commissioner N Manjula.
Speaking at the inauguration of Press Day celebrations and Training for Rural Journalists at the Taluk Panchayat auditorium in Chikkaballapur on Monday, Manjula said: “ The press which is considered as the Fourth Estate should play a significant role in highlighting and championing people’s issues and should be a voice of the marginalised, oppressed and the underdog.”
Site allocation soon
The District Administration will soon allot a site for the construction of the Zilla Patrakartara Bhavan. The process of selecting sites has begun, she assured.
Information revolution
Also speaking on the occasion Karnataka Madhyama Academy president D P Parameshwar said: “With innovation and advancement in technology a lot of changes have been brought about in the field of media. Now there is a surge of information revolution in the arena of mass media. People never like before are banking on various kinds of mass media to analyse and understand current affairs.”
No biases
Karnataka Working Journalists’ Association president Gangadhar Mudaliar addressing the gathering at the inauguration said: “ The journalists should neither deify personalities nor indulge in baseless criticism of individuals and events. The reporting should be as balanced as possible and should not be tainted with personal biases.”
Layout for scribes
Efforts will be undertaken to construct a Patrakartara Bhavan in each of the districts in the State and also ensure Journalists’ Layout.” Legislator K P Bache Gowda, Karnataka Madhyama Academy Secretary Hamid Khan, Zilla Working Journalists’ Association president M Jayaram were also present at the programme.
