Getting access to internet which was very easy earlier, provided you manage to get a system to browse has now become tougher. Thanks to the city cops, who have come with a novel idea of introducing CLINCK software to check cyber crime cases.

A woman, who had come to check her LPG status at one of the cyber cafes in city by browsing the internet, was disappointed as she was not allowed to browse for she had not carried her identity card. She was politely denied by the employee who asked her to bring her identity card as it has become mandatory to register the details of the cyber users.

A college student who luckily carried his identity card heaved a sigh of relief but when he was asked for a xerox copy of the same, he had no other choice as to search for a xerox centre or for another internet centre.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, a cyber cafe owner said that though everyone were allowed easy access to internet earlier, after a meeting held recently, organised by the city cops, it was decided to make it mandatory from August 1, to collect the necessary details of the user until the software is installed and make the procedure a little stricter to prevent cyber crime.

There are not many sensational cyber crimes that has come to fore in the city, but the recent step of the Mysore police to introduce CLINCK software, in association with a private company has been welcomed by the cyber cafe owners also.

The CLINCK software is being given free of cost to the cyber cafes and would be installed at all the cafes in city by August 4.

Though some cyber cafes at important junctions of the city near colleges have already installed the software, others are yet to be equipped with the software.

The visitors to the cafes (where software is installed) have to register for any access to terminals and internet and will be given single login ID. The information and data backup will be done on CLINCK servers, that includes storage of photo, photo ID, address, contacts e-register etc.

So if you want to get access to internet at one of the cyber cafes, please don’t forget to carry your identity cards or at least until all the cyber cafes are installed with the specified software.
