The inflow to the reservoir was 15,000 cusecs on Thursday and if it continues, the reservoir would reach the maximum level within a week, opine engineers.

At present six tmc feet of water is required for the reservoir to reach the brim. According to reports, if there is 11,574 cusecs inflow for 24 hours there will be a rise of one tmc feet. Based on this the reservoir would reach maximum level in a week.

Water in canal
As the inflow has risen, around 4,200 cusecs of water is released through the left bank canal. The maximum level of the reservoir is said to be 2,922 ft and the level stood at 2915.41 ft on Thursday. Last year the measurements recorded was 2,903.4 ft and inflow was 9,333 cusecs. Compared to last year, the level is 10 feet more now. Assistant executive engineer Sripada Rao said since there was sufficient rainfall this year, there will be no problem in the reservoir filling to the brim.

Hemavathi reservoir irrigates around 6.55 lakh hectare agricultural land in Hassan, Mandya and Tumkur districts.
