Invest in farm sector, Prez tells India inc
President Pratibha Patil on Friday called upon the corporates to invest in the agriculture sector, especially in rain-fed farming within India.
Patil, according to the President’s website, is said to have said this during a brain storming session on the “Prospects of rain-fed farming with special reference to engaging the corporate sector,” at the University of Agricultural Science here, which was not open for media.
The rain-fed area, she said, offers good scope and should be tapped by the business houses.
“Unless we make the rain-fed areas the cradle of a second green revolution, they will continue to remain under-invested undermining the potential of the agriculture sector as a whole,” she said.
She will, on Saturday, deliver the 45th annual convocation address of the University of Agricultural Sciences at its GKVK campus here. Patil will also inaugurate the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Karnataka State Bar Council at the Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Central College Campus.
