Last Updated 07 August 2011, 18:27 IST

It can be recalled that on October 10, last year, Y Sampangi was one among the 16 rebel MLAs.

When he went on a visit to Goa, angered by his stand, thousands of BJP workers staged a protest march at Robertsonpet in the town. When the procession arrived near the MLA’s office near the Naidu Lodge, the irate workers ransacked his office and threw all the furniture and other items outside and burnt them.

The police have submitted a charge sheet in this regard to the court here.

According to the charge sheet, several prominent BJP leaders involved in the incident are still at large.

Former president of the BJP city unit Suresh Narayankutti, Doddakambali Janardhana Naidu, Beeranakuppa Krishna Reddy, Sathyanarayan of Robertsonpet, Ramesh and Akram are still at large, according to the police.

The police had registered cases against 14 BJP members, including BJP city unit President Venkatesh, leaders K Rajendran, Premchand Jain and Rajanna.

However, the names of several important leaders involved in the incident have been dropped.

Among the 14 accused, so far, only eight persons have sought bail. While the remaining leaders of the party are seen in almost all the public functions and gatherings in the lead, and yet they are not ‘visible’ to the police who still consider them to be absconding.

Summons have been issued to the accused and they are supposed to be present in the court before August 12.
