Former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, his corporator-son Katta Jagadish and the Managing Director of Itasca Software S V Srinivas were sent to judicial custody after their bail application was rejected by the Special Lokayukta Court in the land scam involving the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). The pronouncement sent the father-son duo to tears.

Naidu and his son face charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 87 crore to allot 325 acres to software development company Itasca. The Lokayukta police who filed a charge sheet on July 8 detected largescale irregularities in the process of acquisition of land for Itasca by the KIADB.

Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa was the leading politician to feel the heat of law during the day when he was issued summons by the Lokayukta court in connection with a private complaint filed by advocate Sirajin Basha on the illegal denotification of land.

Summons were issued to all the 15 persons named in the complaint who include close relatives of Yeddyurappa. The former chief minister is required to appear in the court on August 27 for the hearing.

Yeddyurappa had another blow coming with the same court handing over a case involving him to the Lokayukta police for investigation. The case pertained to the preferential awarding of work orders for the Upper Bhadra Project to a joint venture company, RNS Infrastructure Limited and Jyothi Limited, that quoted  an exorbitant amount for executing the project.

In return, the joint venture company is said to have paid Rs 13 crore to a company owned by Yeddyurappa’s sons, Raghavendra and Vijayendra and son-in-law Sohan Kumar.

Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and legislator wife Anitha were issued summons by the same court, along with a mining company, Janthakal Enterprises, on a complaint from advocate Vinod Kumar. The three will have to appear in the court on Aug 30.

Two charges have been levelled against Kumaraswamy, including the one on renewal of licence to Janthakal in Chitradurga despite the company not having secured environmental clearances.
