Cleanliness drive to fight corruption

Last Updated 13 August 2011, 19:30 IST

Several volunteers, including students, senior citizens and from the private sector, gathered at the Yeswanthpur APMC  yard for a mass cleanliness drive on Saturday.

Local volunteers not only swept the market yard, but also cleared garbage on the adjoining roads and streets.

Soon, even local residents joined in with the IAC volunteers in the cleanup operation. The volunteers were dressed in T-shirts with the message.

“We are trying to draw a parallel between cleanliness at the local level and the need for cleanliness at the highest levels of government”, said S Hareesh, a volunteer.

The cleanliness drive was followed by a bike rally. Kundan Singh, an IAC volunteer, said they would hold a bike rally from Basavangudi on August 15, hoist Tricolour at the Freedom Park, and also a protest on August 16.
