Devaraj Urs statue unveiled in Hunsur

The seven-foot tall statue weighing 930 kg was unveiled on the occasion of the former chief minister’s 96th birth anniversary, 29 years after he died.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramdas said that Devaraj Urs had held the reins of the State for eight years. He expressed regret that when Congress party expelled Urs, only a few had followed their leader. Ramdas said that it was a lesson to all political leaders. Urs strived to bring people from backward communities to the mainstream.

MP Vishwanath said the statues reflect the personalities of leaders. In the recent years, the name of the person who worked for backward communities is being forgotten. Every politician should learn about the values propagated by Urs, he added.

Former speaker Ramesh Kumar, deputy commissioner P S Vastrad, Vikramraje Urs son of late writer Chaduranga, Manjunatha Urs, Anupama Urs - the son and daughter of Chandraprabha Urs,  ZP members, taluk panchayat president Bhagyamma, MLC Chikkamadu, KPCC member Premkumar, TMC president Manjula Chennabasappa and others were present.
