Palike lost Rs six cr in road scam
The final inquiry report on the major road scam in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has revealed that the nexus between the engineers, contractor and the accounts officers has led to a total loss of Rs 5.75 crore to the Palike.
Based on the outcome of the probe into six among the 13 projects, Palike Commissioner Siddaiah had suspended two engineers and wrote to the State government for the suspension of 14 other officers, working in the Public Works Department. He had also asked the Government to ensure the recovery of Rs 1.85 crore from these officers.
Once Siddaiah was convinced of the largescale loot in the Major Roads Department, he ordered for a complete probe into all the 13 projects, worth Rs 10 crore. The final inquiry report is out, much to the chagrin of the tainted Palike officers. The report has revealed that of the total Rs 10 crore, at least Rs 5.75 crore was pocketed by the Palike engineers. Besides the 16 officers named in the previous report, the final report also nails an assistant engineer Sananda too, said Palike sources.
