The win has earned Girish the title ‘best vocalist in the country’ in the rock genre.

In July this year, Girish and his band made a path-breaking performance at the Montenegro International Suncane Skale Festival in Europe.

The prestigious “Yamaha Asian Beats 2011” competition was held at the Kyra MP Theatre in Bangalore on August 27.

After around 50 gigs through various venues in the country and abroad following their international debut, Girish performing as the 'guest' vocalist for Guwahati-based 'Silver Tears' competed at the zonal competition for the 'Yamaha Asian Beats' title which was held in Guwahati.

He came first among participants from eight states. The top bands of each zone met at Bangalore’s Kyra MP theatre and Girish was declared the best vocalist in the All- India Finals.

With this, he has qualified for the international rounds which are scheduled to be held in Seoul in South Korea on November 14.

A Hong Kong-based company has signed a seven-year contract with the 24-year-old rocker from Sikkim to promote him in the rock circuits in Europe of which  Montenegro Rock Festival is a part.

When Girish leaves for Europe in mid-October, he will be the greatest rock export from Sikkim and for that matter the whole sub-continent, rock music followers said here.

Girish started his journey way back in 1999 when he was a school student. He formed a band 'Anarchy' which used to perform in school festivals across the Northeast.

His present band 'Girish n the Chronicles', which took off from 'Anarchy', comprises four members and has performed at IITs in Kharagpur, Delhi and some other places.
