Mangalore, Aug 30, DHNS:

Mangalore City Corporation in-charge Commissioner Dr K N Vijayaprakash said that Water bill arrears from Ullal TMC to MCC is Rs 1.38 crore.

Inspite of pursuading them to pay the bill, the Ullal TMC has failed in paying the pending water arrears. Speaking at the MCC meeting here on Tuesady, he said half MGD water is supplied to the Ullal TMC limits daily. When the TMC failed to pay the bill, the Council had decided to sign a MoU with the Ullal TMC. Accordingly, it had asked to deposit Rs 10 lakh and pay Rs 5 lakh every month. The TMC has deposted Rs 10 lakh. However, they have failed to pay Rs 5 lakh every month.

On the other hand, the Mulki TMC has been regular in paying the water bills.  Shankar Bhat urged the Council to take a decision to stop supply of water to Ullal TMC limits.

When members raised the issue of disruption in water distribution system, the Executive Engineer said that there is no shortage of quantity of water for supply. However, there are some problems with regard to the distribution system. When Executive Engineer-II, who looks into the issue of water supply, was not present in the meeting, there was chaos  for some time.

Railway under bridge

However, after General alignment drawing, the cost of the project has been increased to Rs 11 crore. Accordingly, the State government and the railways have to equally share Rs 5.50 crore each.

When the members objected to handing over of the contract to prepare detailed project report on Mahakalipadpu railway level crossing to Rights Limited, the in- charge commissioner said that if the work on level crossing is delayed, the entire proceedings of the work will be delayed.

Hence, all the objections related to the issue will be discussed after they prepare DPR. The agenda on 24X7 water supply was deferred in the Council for the second consecutive period.
