Cong announces candidate for Karnataka assembly bypoll

Basavraj K Hitnal will be the Congress candidate for the by-election to Koppal assembly seat in Karnataka.
The announcement was made by the AICC today. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved his candidature.
This is the first by-election in Karnataka after the resignation of B S Yeddyurappa as Chief Minister.
The constituency had fallen vacant following the resignation of sitting JD(S) member Karadi Sanganna who had switched over to BJP in March this year. He had quit the Assembly and the party on March 3, 2011.BJP is likely to field Karadi Sanganna from the seat which goes to polls on September 26.
