State govt to blame for Lokayukta quitting: Cong
The State government is solely responsible for the resignation of Lokayukta Justice Shivaraj Patil, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G Parameshwara said on Tuesday.
He told reporters that before nominating Patil as the Lokayukta, the State government should have scrutinised his background. If that had been done, the question of the ombudsman resigning would not have arisen, he said.
He said the government had not taken the Opposition parties into confidence while naming the Lokayukta. However, by tendering his resignation, Justice Patil has set an exemplary precedent, he said.
Patil’s resignation is also a cause for concern, because those chosen for the post in the future may hesitate to work for such parliamentary institutions.
