‘I have kept away from politics’
TN Governor Rosaiah hopes to do justice to new role
Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah said on Sunday he did not like to engage in politics as the constitutional head of a state.
“I have distanced myself from politics from the day I was sworn in as Governor. A Governor has to act as a bridge between the state and the central government. I will try to give full justice to my new assignment”, the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh told reporters at the sidelines of a felicitation programme organised by K Rosaiah Felicitation Committee in Bangalore.
On whether he was happy in his present post, Rosaiah said, the question of being happy or unhappy did not arise. “It is a role assigned to me. I will try to give it full justice.”
Later, at a felicitation organised jointly by the K Rosaiah Abhinandana Samithi and the Karnataka Arya Vysya Mahasabha, he said, he would strive his best to ensure that the people of Tamil Nadu live in a peaceful atmosphere. “As a head of the state, I will have to act according to provisions of the Constitution. My role as Governor will be constructive as per the provisions of the law”, Rosaiah said.
He said he had been in public life for the last six decades as a party worker. The various positions he held, including that of the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh were only incidental, Rosaiah said.
Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy said Rosaiah became chief minister without lobbying and even gave up the position voluntarily. “Politicians today have much to learn from him,” he added.
