BETWEEN FRIENDS
Youngsters feel sharing things helps better one’s social life and strengthens friendship
Sharing things is common habit among siblings and friends. Most of today’s youngsters are comfortable in sharing clothes, cosmetics and accessories.
They feel sharing helps one lead a better social life and strengthen the bond of
friendship. Though youngsters are possessive about the things they own, they don’t mind sharing them with their close ones.
Most people develop the habit of sharing things with others from childhood. Sharing is also common trend among youngsters, who stay in hostels or PG accommodations.
“If one grows up with siblings, he or she will be more comfortable with sharing. If such a person stays in a hostel or PG, he or she won’t have any issues,” says Reshma, an engineering student.
Thanks to her experience of staying in a hostel and PG for many years, Reshma happily shares her things like perfumes, clothes and accessories with friends.
“As I have been staying in a hostel for many years, it’s normal for me. I don’t mind sharing things with my roommates, friends and siblings. As a result, our friendship strengthens and a mutual trust develops,” she reasons.
Most youngsters feel sharing is an important part of a long-term friendship. Sharing means a lot to them. Vivek, a degree student, says that sharing is synonymous with college life.
“Right from our lunch boxes to laptops, we share everything with friends. As we are students and don’t earn, we can’t buy whatever we want. Sometimes we have to suppress our wishes. In such cases, friends come to our rescue. We exchange our shirts, watches, belts, perfumes and many things. As trust builds up, the options also increase,” he smirks.
Often, people find it difficult to share expensive items or things which are dear to them.
They are also more prone to falling sick when they use things of others. Hence, people like Saroja, a professional, are against this tendency. She feels that sharing things is like welcoming danger.
“I don’t like to share my personal things with others, particularly clothes and cosmetics, as it is not a good practice from the health aspect. The chances of getting exposed to skin diseases and allergy are more,” she says.
“I have had some bad experiences during my stay in the hostel. Many a time, the hired things also come back in bad shape, which creates misunderstanding between friends. This may affect friendship in turn. Hence, I avoid sharing things with others as much as possible,” she concludes.
