Mysore Dasara adventure sports cub-committee has organised ‘Dasara level dirt track motorcycle race’ on October 4 at the track beside Hotel Lalitha Mahal Palace in the city.
This was announced on Sunday by chairman of the sub-committee B K Manjunath.
The race would be held in two categories — 1,000cc and 250cc — and the entry fee is Rs 1,000. The winner will pocket Rs 15,000, and the runner-up Rs 7,500.
Adventure events will unfold on September 29 with aquatic sports at Varuna Canal.
Ministers Narasimha Naik and Raju Gowda will participate in the inaugural programme.
Besides, a well-known name in Parasailing, who has many jumps to his credit, Chandran will also take part. Among water sports, jet-skiing, kayaking, banana ride and others will be conducted daily from 9.30 am to 1 pm and 2 to 5.30 pm at the canal. The fare for jet skiing is Rs 200 per head, followed by banana ride Rs 100 and kayaking Rs 30.
For those who have a penchant for virtual adventure — parasailing has been organised at Mandakalli Airport with a fee of Rs 200 per head, besides hot air balloon at Oval Grounds at Rs 500 per head. Working president of the sub-committee M N Nataraj who is also district youth coordination officer said: “The balloon can accommodate five people including the pilot at a time, taking off up to 300 feet height. However, it would be available from 6 to 10 am and 5.30 to 9.30 pm.
Zorbing is also on offer at the same venue from 9.30 am to 1 pm and 2 to 5.30 pm. Plans are on to take the balloon around the city, but the exorbitant cost has made the authorities dither over it. The other events include state-level Chamundi hill steps climbing cont
est on October 3 at 6.30 am. The first three winners will be feted with cash prize of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. State-level men and women’s open cycling is on October 2 at 6.30 am.
The contestants will have to cover 50 km (including both ways) on Hunsur road here starting from Yashaswini Kalyana Mantapa. The first five winners will get Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
Bicycle polo, another first during Dasara has been organised on October 3 and 4 at Village Hostel Ground, Manasagangotri, 10 am onwards.
To encourage interested youths on wall climbing, artificial wall climbing training has been organised at Chamundi Vihar stadium here.
As a precautionary measure the sub-committee is mulling over group insurance scheme for those who take dirt track, bicycle race and hot air balloon.
General Thimmaiah National Academy for Adventure Sports will conduct most of the events, Nataraj said.
Deputy special officer of the sub-committee and superintendent of police Manish Karbiker, vice-presidents B S Prakash and M Kumar, and secretary and NSS programme coordinator M Rudraiah were present.
