Class VIII student turns kidnapper

Last Updated 01 October 2011, 17:34 IST

The teenager has been apprehended and handed over to the police.  The student of Class VIII in a Government Middle School at Kumarpatti village near Darbhanga is now languishing in jail after getting a sound thrashing by the locals as well as the police.

Suman, at the behest of goon Chandan Kumar, had abducted one-and-a-half-year-old Mohammad Sultanat, son of Mohammad Akhlakh, from the Lalbagh area of the district.

Suman took away Sultanat when the child was playing in a cart and while his father was having snacks at a nearby food stall. All hell broke loose when Suman escaped with the child.

When Akhlakh raised an alarm, fellow villagers chased Suman, who was running away with the child bare foot. The Class VIII student was caught and thrashed mercilessly before he was handed over to the police.

Teenager interrogated

The tiny tot was handed over to his father, while the teenager was interrogated in the lock-up. “The boy has confessed to his crime. We are looking into the statements given by him. Only after the investigation is over can we comment whether the confessional statement is true or false,” said Superintendent of Police Kumar Aikley.

The police are also looking for the main accused 22-year-old Chandan, who had reportedly threatened Suman with repercussions if he refused to abduct the child.
