She’s waiting for something really big and worth the chance to come her way.

Bhavana has played a variety of characters and she says that it’s not only the strength of the script that matters but also the role. Bhavana debuted in Kannada with Jackie which did exceptionally well. “I can’t speak a word of Kannada except for nimma hesaru yenu. I would have to translate the dialogues into a language that I am comfortable in and work hard to learn up the lines but I won’t mind that extra effort, as the roles that I am being offered in the Kannada film industry is pretty meaty,” says Bhavana.

Bhavana is now acting opposite golden star Ganesh in ‘Romeo’ where she plays the role of a young lady who works in a bank. She bumps into Ganesh and the two hit it off really well. “Young men and women will instantly relate to the story. It’s a fun film,” she says.
But Bhavana feels that male actors are still given preference for substantial roles and actresses still don’t have the privilege of bagging big roles. “I don’t blame anybody, it has been like that. There is a lot of difference in the treatment given to actors and actresses,” she observes.

Bhavana recollects that she essayed some memorable roles, in Chintamani Kola Case where she played a medical student who was later murdered, and in Nammal where she played a school girl. Bhavana says that she’s lucky that a lot of challenging roles have come her way. “From the moment I get the script, I start working on the character and begin to feel, talk and act like the character. There’s a lot of background work that goes into every character that I emote,” she explains.

She’s extremely content with the offers she’s getting down South and doesn’t feel the need to explore more language films but she particularly admires the work of Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan. “These two men have really proved their worth in the film industry. There are so many heroes in Bollywood but South Indian film industry has only a limited number. The same big names keep getting big offers and heroines get to act with the same people over and over again,” she adds.

She hopes to act with Kamal Hassan some day. “We never see a Kamal Hassan in any of the characters he plays. He always invents and make every character appear different. He’s a class apart,” she says.

When Bhavana is not acting, she’s either reading or watching movies, “I have to watch at least one movie a day and I always have a book in hand in my spare time,” she sums up.
