The Srirangapatna Dasara received a fitting valedictory on Tuesday with the Sufi Qawalli programme at Sriranga vedike here. Noted Qawalli singer from Hyderabad Asad Amjad Khan Warsi.
The sufi artists enthralled the audience with the hits of Sufi Hazarath Kalandar, Sufi Nusrath Fateh Ali Khan and other famous sufi singers. The sufi songs gave a perfect conclusion for the fort town ruled by Tipu Sultan.
A bout of wrestling (nada kusti) matches kept the audience spell-bound at Sendal Fort premises in Srirangapatna as part of the Dasara festivities on the last day on Tuesday.
A 20-minute tie between Raghu of Bannur and Jnanesh of Srinivasa Agrahara was breath-taking, while Vikasagowda of Jattappa’s garadi, Srirangapatna, got an easy win over Prasanna of Yelekere.
The bout between Rita Priyanka and Shylaja of Palahalli was very interesting, but it ended in a draw with the latter sustaining an injury in the arm. Another interesting match was between Nikhilgowda of Kumbarakoppalu and Naveen Kumar of the town, which ended with the former losing it.
Ramu of Belagola and Chetan of Bogadi were among the 20 participants in wrestling. Earlier MLA Ramesh Bandisiddegowda inaugurated the matches, wrestlers Kabab Rajanna, Srikantu and Palahalli Raju were present on the occasion. While, the traditionals sports events like archery, frog jump, musical chair and others also elicited good response.
