Crooning away to victory
Rotary Idol
The third ‘Rotary Idol’ event of District 3190, which was held recently, was a colourful affair with some extraordinary singing talent from Clubs all over the District participating.
The audience comprised 300 Rotarians, Anns, Annettes, and Inner Wheelers.
Sponsored and conducted by the Rotary Club of Bangalore, the event was held at the ‘Rotary House of Friendship’. The organisers had to choose 18 finalists from almost 85 entries. The competition was made more interesting by reserving prizes and awards in various categories so that everyone had a chance to participate and win some recognition.
This event was open to Rotarians, Anns, Annettes, and the Inner Wheelers, and served to bring families of Rotarians together. Accompanied by a professional band, and judged by a panel of reputed playback singers, the finalists exhibited their skills and talent to the beats of the music and the applause of the audience, who were glued to their seats for well over three hours.
District Governor Nagendra gave away prizes, gifts, and hampers to the winners and the participants. The programme began with the rendering of Vaishnava Jano Tho, in tribute to the Father of the Nation, followed by a captivating but brief performance by dancer Rukmini Vijayakumar, after which the competition began.
The show was organised by Zarir Batha and anchored by Anu Varma, assisted by her team.
The highlight of the show was the young and diminutive Sanjana from Rotary Southwest, who stole the hearts of everyone with her almost flawless performance, and walked away with the ‘Rotary Idol’ crown, that also carried a cash award of Rs 10,000.
