Albino crow spotted in Hampi city
Hampi has a rare winged visitor. An albino crow, known popularly as white crow, has made the historical city its home for the past two days.
Crows are usually associated with divine wrath, misfortune and tension. In Hindu mythology, they are depicted as the “vehicle of Lord Shanaishchara”, one of the most feared gods. However, the white crow has generated lot of curiosity among people in Hampi city.
Though the bird’s face and legs are black, the wings and the rest of the body are white.
Locals say it has been spotted many times in the surrounding hills, areas behind Virupaksha Temple and in Prakash Nagar.
“The change in colour could be due to a disease or albinism, characterised by a total or partial lack of melanin pigment. It is quite similar to leucoderma among humans,” said Pampaswamy, president of Kamalapur Town Panchayat.
