As the city prepares to host Nasscom Mysore 2.0, companies are gearing up to give a glimpse of opportunities available in the ‘city to settle down’, writes Manish
“As soon as I finished my engineering, the first thing that I did was hop on a train to Bangalore. I started applying online in various companies and never gave a thought about even searching for software companies sprouting in my hometown, Mysore,” recalls Lohith, working at an IT firm.
For Lohith the hotspot for a job was Bangalore even though Mysore in itself has more than 30 software firms. After working for three years in Bangalore and a stint in Pune for about a year, Lohith has no regrets about returning to Mysore. “The traffic is the best thing here. You can go out at any time of the day and have no qualms of getting stuck in a jam. And as I own a house here, the cost of living is very less. Most importantly, I get time to spend with my family,” he says are the reasons for him returning to Mysore.
The city has been living under the shadow of Bangalore for long and several software companies, BPOs and firms providing infrastructure are gathering at Nasscom Mysore 2.0 to project the advantages of the city. At the same time, an expo is being organised on the sidelines of the conference.
It would act as a platform to improve awareness among people about the consistent rise in number of IT and ITES companies in the city. Around 25 stalls including those of software, BPOs and infrastructure firms would be showcasing their services at the expo. The expo would be open from 12 noon to 5.30 pm for students.
Speaking to City Herald, Manager, Corporate Communications - PR, Software Paradigms of India (SPI), Sujatha Rajpal, said their firm has around 1,500 employees working at a 11-acre campus in the city. The company wants to showcase their expertise in financial services and also in medical transcription. She said that many students in colleges don’t know about the software companies present in Mysore. Instead, they always go for Bangalore-based companies. The expo would provide a great opportunity for students, she added.
Head HR, SPI India, Thomas V Joseph said a presentation would be running in the stall showcasing the various lines of business. Also, offering a godsend opportunity to the unemployed or those looking for openings, the company would be collecting resumes at the venue.
Akshay Mallappa, whose company Rprocess offers BPO services from Yalandur in Chamarajanagar district said offering services from here would reduce cost to customers. Also, he said they would showcase their services in data migration at the event.
On the infrastructure front, Business development manager, Renaissance Holdings and Developers Private Limited, Vedavathi said they are looking forward to promote an SEZ at Koorgalli and an IT Park behind Infosys. “The next big destination for IT companies is Mysore and we want to promote the place before others come into the city. Within the SEZ we can accommodate all the companies and have our own shuttle services. With more than built-up space of five lakh square feet at the IT Park and a million square feet at the SEZ spread over 25 acres, the event would be ideal to display our services,” she added.
