Hotel Shantala Mayura to get a facelift
Good tidings are back to Belur-Halebeedu. As part of the initiative to promote tourism in these heritage towns, the tourism department has taken up renovation and restoration of Hotel Shanthala Mayura Restaurant.
The famous restaurant, once popular among tourists here, would become operational in about six months.
The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), a unit of tourism department, has been vested with the responsibility to restore the glory of the hotel.
Though, the KSTDC had a bigger plan to build a new building alongside the old restaurant, it shelved the idea after the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) opposed any such move in the heritage zone.
Hence, KSTDC has decided to restore the infrastructure for the existing facility.
Soon, the hotel would get a facelift at a cost of Rs 13.5 lakh. The heritage building would be improved with all modern amenities, tables and chairs with a state-of-the-art kitchen. The hotel also has few old lodging facility, which would also get a facelift.
Hotel Shanthala Mayura was built about 25 years ago under a tourism department project. However, the hotel became defunct due to various reasons in the last 10 years.
Manager of the hotel Papanna said if the ASI gives permission, KSTDC would construct a few more rooms adjacent to the existing building. The restaurant would be improved in a phased manner. A garden restaurant is also planned, the manager added.
