<p>Ravi Singh Rana, a native of Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, stabbed Kaushik twice in the abdomen before attacking Aparna (22) at Parangipalya around 6 pm on Sunday. Kaushik died on the spot and Aparna sustained serious injuries, police said.<br /><br />As neighbours rushed in when Aparna and Kaushik cried for help, Rana jumped out of Aparna’s first-floor house and fractured his hands. A police patrol vehicle arrived at the spot after hearing the commotion. Rana, immobilised by the fall, was taken into custody and rushed to a hospital near Agara Lake, where Aparna too was admitted.<br />Police said Rana murdered Kaushik as he considered him a love rival. Rana and Aparna were classmates at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, HSR Layout. <br /><br />Both had become good friends and used to hang around together. Rana had, however, mistaken Aparna’s friendship for love.<br /><br />After graduation, Aparna, a native of Chennai, took up a job at Simbus Technologies at HSR Layout, where Kaushik also worked. Over a period of time, the two became good friends.<br /><br />Meanwhile, Rana landed a job as a stores manager at Indus League, a garment company on Cunningham Road. </p>.<p>Trouble started when Rana saw Aparna being intimate with Kaushik. He detested Aparna meeting Kaushik too often. Sometime ago, Rana questioned Aparna and accused her of deserting him. Aparna, however, asserted there was nothing between Kaushik and her. </p>.<p>She also spurned Rana saying she never loved him. When Rana persisted, she told him only her parents would decide whom she should marry.<br /><br />But Rana was not convinced. About 10 days ago, he went to Aparna’s house in HSR Layout 2nd Cross, and picked up a fight over her relationship with Kaushik and warned her against it.<br /><br />Immediate cause<br /><br />The immediate cause for Rana’s deathly anger was Kaushik calling Aparna over to his house for lunch on Sunday afternoon. There, he introduced her to his parents. After lunch, Aparna requested Kaushik to help her getting her house painted.<br /><br />As Kaushik went to Aparna’s house, Rana kept a close watch on them. He followed them and knocked on the door that was locked from inside. Kaushik also came out with Aparna, both holding paint brushes in their hands, to open the door.<br />When Aparna and Kaushik opened the door, Rana pounced on Kaushik and stabbed him in the abdomen with a knife. <br /><br />He then turned his ire on Aparna. Kaushik’s last rites were performed on Monday after an autopsy at the Victoria Hospital. HSR Layout police have booked a case of murder and attempt to murder against Rana.<br /><br /></p>
