Going green

For green loving Mysoreans, circles in the city are getting a makeover promising an enhanced look in the days to come.

Mysore City Corporation (MCC) has embarked on a project at an estimated cost of Rs 9.5 lakh to give a facelift to 45 circles.

The department of horticulture, MCC, has already launched the first phase. The circles are classified into big and small depending on available space and also its location.

Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Circle popular as K R Circle, Chamarajendra Wadiyar Circle opposite Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple, popular as Statue Circle, Mahaveera Circle popular as Doddagadiyaara Circle, Visvesvaraya Circle (Government Ayurvedic Hospital), Millenium Circle (T N Narasimha Murthy Circle in front of LIC divisional office building), Babu Jagjivan Ram Circle in front of City Railway Station are among the circles listed under big category.

These circles are supposed to give good scope for development, with pleasant view and hence flowering plants have been envisaged for them.

Sources told Deccan Herald, it has been decided to go for round the year flowering plants like- ghazania, emelia, eranthemum, plumbag, benjamia, starlight, etc. This apart Mexican grass will be used for landscaping.

Though it’s an ardous task and also involves huge cost when compared to other designs, it’s still worthy to make the view pleasant.

Saplings have been planted during Dasara at K R, Chamarajendra and Doddagadiyaara circles and they are bearing results now.

Apart from circles, medians are also getting makeover with euphorbia plants adoring the stretch. Such types of saplings have been being planted in front of CADA office opposite Mysore Palace.

The speciality here is, it has both thorns and flowers acting like a protective cover.
Moreover, it can be watered on alternative days, unlike other plants. It has been replicated at the median on KRS road starting from Dasappa Circle on JLB road near railway station.

According to an officer supervising the work, it is expected to be completed in three to four months.
