Rescued Karwar child labourers in Kerala shelters
As many as 28 children belonging to Karwar in Karnataka who were smuggled to Kerala to work in prawn peeling companies in Kollam district by unscrupulous agents were sent to government institutions under Juvenile Justice Act by Alappuzha Child Welfare Committee in Kerala on Wednesday.
While all boys were sent to Government Observation Home, Thiruvanchoor, Kottayam district, girls were sent to Government Children’s Home, Kakkanad Ernakulam district. The children would be released when their parents arrive.
In a joint operation Alappuzha police , Alappuzha district child welfare committee and Railway Police Force (RPF) had rescued 28 children including 18 girls and nine boys, all from Karwar in Karnataka from Thiruvananthapuram bound Netravathi express on Tuesday. The police also arrested a labour contractor from Tamil Nadu and his two agents from the train.
