Software exports from State touch Rs 85,000 cr
Continuing its dominance in the country’s information technology (IT) industry, Karnataka accounted for a lion’s share in the growth of IT industry, the state contributed 33 per cent to the total software exports from the country.
Total software exports from Karnataka has also grown significantly (by 13 per cent) in 2010-11 and touched Rs 85,000 crore against Rs 75,000 crore in the previous year, said the STPI authorities. Today, the state has more than 2,200 software units and 70 hardware units registered. As is being done for over a decade, this year too, STPI, Govt. of India and Department of IT, BT & ST, Govt of Karnataka have recognised the top performing IT companies of Karnataka for their performance during 2010-11 by awarding them the STPI IT Exports Awards.
The jury have recognised the performance of the Industry over 23 different categories with total of 24 awards. The main parameters considered for the said categories are for Exports from IT/IT enabled services, Employment, best STPI Incubatee, Woman entrepreneur of the year in IT, Electronic Hardware Company and special recognition for performers from Tier II/III regions.
